New Roots Settlement Services
Free settlement support for newcomers, in fourteen languages
About New Roots Settlement Services
New Roots Settlement Services is a registered non-profit helping newly arrived immigrants and refugees settle in Toronto. All of our services are free: housing search assistance and landlord advocacy, employment counselling and credential recognition support, help completing government forms, interpretation in fourteen languages, and referrals to legal, mental health, and food security partners. We also run a peer mentorship program pairing new arrivals with someone from a similar background who arrived a few years earlier, which is consistently the part clients say helped most.

Frequently Asked Questions
01Do I need permanent resident status to use your services?
No. We serve permanent residents, protected persons, refugee claimants, and people on work and study permits. Some specific funded programs have status requirements, and we will tell you clearly which ones.
02Is interpretation available?
Yes, in fourteen languages with staff interpreters and more through a phone service. Tell us your preferred language when you book and we will schedule an interpreter for the whole appointment.
03Can you help me find housing?
Our housing workers help with searching, understanding lease terms, applying for rent subsidies, and dealing with landlords who are not meeting their obligations. We cannot provide housing directly.
